Our Historical Background

Kenya Seed Company Limited (KSC) is a state corporation  that produces and markets top quality certified seeds with an overall objective of adding value to the farming business and contributing to food self-sufficiency in Kenya and beyond.

 The Company was incorporated in Kenya on 2nd July 1956 to initially promote the use of improved strains of pasture seed developed by then , National Agricultural Research Station based in Kitale. Two years later KSC stated an enterprise to produce commercial sunflower for the European bird feed market in order to sustain its financial needs.

 In 1979, the Company acquired Simpson and White Law, a company trading in horticultural seed and adopted the brand name “Simlaw Seeds”, which has since distinguished itself as a leading brand in the market. In 2002, Simlaw Seeds was registered as a limited liability company and a subsidiary of Kenya Seed  Company Ltd. Its core business is selling and marketing of high quality seeds, pesticides and fertilizers in the East African region. As an expansion strategy into Eastern Africa market , Kenya Seed Company has incorporated subsidiaries namely:

  1. Simlaw Seed Kenya
  2. Simlaw Seed Uganda
  3. Kibo Seed Company Ltd.

Our Mandate & Core Function

The Company’s main mandate is to carry out focused research, promote and facilitate production of high yielding , better quality certified seed and to enhance food self-sufficiency and quality living standards for sustainable economic development in Kenya and beyond.

The Company’s range of products has expanded to include over 60 Certified Seed Varieties of Maize, Pasture, Horticulture, Sorghum, Sunflower and Vegetable seeds  suitable for different agro-ecological zones in the region. The company controls over  80% of the seed maize market in Kenya.
